2.[观察]阅读下列句子,观察survive在句子中的用法。
①The house survived the storm.
作及物动词,意思是“幸免于难,（经过…）活下来”
②The old man survived his wife by ten years.
“比……活（存在）的时间长”,作及物动词
③A few pages of the original manuscript still survived.作不及物动词时,意思是“幸存；继续存在”

3.Frederick William I,the King of Prussia,could never have imagined that his greatest gift to the Russian people would have such an amazing history.普鲁士国王威廉一世绝不可能想到他送给俄罗斯人民的厚礼会有这样一段令人惊讶的历史。

情态动词+have done（对过去发生的事情的推测）
He paid for a seat when he could have entered free.
I couldn't have been more than six years old when the accident happened.

Translation:

1.昨天晚上一定下雨了,路上很泥泞。（must）
It must have rained last night,for the road was quite muddly.
2.我刚才看见王先生了,他不可能去北京。（could）
I saw Mr.Wang just now.He couldn't have gone to Beijing.

4.It was also a treasure decorated with gold and jewels,which took the country's best artists about ten years to make.
[点拨]本句是一个主从复合句。逗号前为主句,其中“decorated with gold and jewels”为过去分词短语作treasure的后置定语；逗号后为which引导的非限制性定语从句,修饰先行词treasure。take sb.some time表示“花了某人一些时间”。这个结构也可改写为句型:it takes sb.some time to do sth.。

5.However,the next King of Prussia,Frederick William I,to whom the amber room belonged,decided not to keep it.
然而,下一位普鲁士国王,腓特烈威廉一世,这个琥珀宫的主人却决定不要它了。

介词+关系代词引导的定语从句中介词的作用:
